  • Woops! Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 (all versions) have a flaw in SMB File Sharing. Attack can cause target computer to lock up. No patch yet available.

  • Windows 8 rumored for release in 2012. 3 years, no duh. Perhaps they’ll make it this time.
  • Square Trade annual laptop repair survey: Asus had fewest repairs in 2 and 3 years, followed by Toshiba and Sony. Apple came fourth. HP was dead last, just after Gateway/Acer. HP failure rate over 3 years: 25%. Netbooks more likely to fail by 20%. (link)
  • More Drobo: Drobo S adds a fifth drive bay and can withstand 2 drive failures, adds eSATA support. $799 with no drives.

  • Large Hadron Collider operations, “We have captured it! First circulating beam of 2009!”, and we’re still here to talk about it.
